As my project is going in the direction of food production and possibly using site-grown materials for developing parts of the site, it is going to be important to develop ways of representing and communicating time-based change in drawn or made output. The site also has an interesting and varied history which should conveyed as well.
One possible way of doing this would be to draw the site plans, in its different phases, as quite minimal line drawings, print them onto acetate, and then layer them up. Using this type of method, any particular layer can be looked at on its own, but then by displaying it layered up with those from other time periods, one can start to see where the differences are, i.e. where the change is happening. Different lineweights or colours could also be used to convey the changes between each layer.
To do this method in a way that layers can be easily taken out and put back in would make this into the most useful object. This could be achieved by making a box out of wood or MDF, and creating slots which pieces of acetate can be slid into. If the acetate layers are mounted in MDF frames to give them rigidity and allow them to fit tightly into the box slots.
