Living bamboo physical model: reflection and drawings

Updated: May 23, 2020

Alongside the computer and physical models, I have also produced a series of sectional drawings to further illustrate this concept that I've been exploring. I think that they nicely complement the models, and help to give an illustration of scale and speculate on how the final form can then begin to be occupied by people and nature.

Reflecting on this exercise, I am really pleased with the whole process, both in terms of the things which have been produced, and in what I have gained from the process itself. I am particularly pleased that I managed to create a Grasshopper definition which did everything that I hoped it would, including facilitating the crucial link between the computer and physical realms, by creating the cut patterns and generating the data for all of the bamboo heights and locations. This means that this model process can serve as a proof of concept, and shows that this strategy could be used on site.
