Charting food and material flows

One of the aspects of my project that has taken a bit of time to work out is the phases of development, how this correlates with the food and materials being grown on the site, and how it correlates with the evolving programme and occupation of the site.

The flowchart below marks out different phases of development, largely dictated by the 4-year growth cycles of the bamboo, and then maps out the key food and material flows within this, as as I currently see them. It also mentions the parts of the programme that relate to these, although there will be other programme on the site which will occupy the cast spaces but won't be affected by food or material flows day to day, such as non-food based markets and shops run by small independent businesses.

The primary purpose of this flowchart is as a tool for me to organise my thoughts on the phases and flows of the project, work out how the growing cycles of bamboo and food fit in with the rest of the programme, and check that everything slots together. I am going to treat this as a working document, and the aim will be to then convey this information in a more visually attractive and understandable form, perhaps using animation on a site plan.
